People from all over the world come to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia for many reasons. They come to learn Arabic and take part in the Muslim Hajj pilgrimage, but most of all, they come to join the Saudi Arabian military. Tabuk is the military capital of Saudi Arabia and houses one of the largest air force bases in the entire world. While I was there, I had my own unique experience that made me fall in love with this incredible city. Here’s what I learned during my time there as a member of the United States Military Academy class of 2017. A Military City Unlike Any Other: My Experience in Tabuk Saudi Arabia

What I Did In 2 Days

I’m not a city person. I grew up in a small town and now live in an even smaller town. So when my husband was stationed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, I was a little apprehensive. But I found that there was plenty to do! The city is home to the largest air force base in Saudi Arabia, so there are always planes flying overhead. Plus, there are plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you busy. And if you’re looking for a little adventure, the Jordanian–Saudi Arabia border is only a short drive away. How To Get There From Riyadh

From Riyadh, the best way to get to Tabuk is by taking a direct flight on Saudia Airlines. The flight time is just over two hours. If you’re coming from Jeddah, you can take a domestic flight on flynas. The flight time is around four and a half hours. You can also drive from either city, but the journey will take at least eight hours.

When To Go

The best time to visit Tabuk is during the winter months, from December to February. The weather is cooler and more pleasant than in the summer, when temperatures can soar above 40 degrees Celsius. For those who want to experience the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage but cannot do so because of distance or other constraints, visiting Tabuk at this time will give you a small taste of what it would be like.
